HELP! What Do I Do If I Drop my AirPods in Water?

Droping AirPods in Water

Imagine if you’d spent a fair amount of money on a pair of Apple AirPods and you dropped them in water. Although Apple do not market them as water-resistant, test have shown that they are fairly robust and shouldn’t break when wet. But if they ever do get submerged in water, here’s some steps to make sure you’ll be listening to your songs through them again in no time.

Get them dry

If your AirPods get wet, the first thing you need to concentrate on is eliminating the moisture. There’s many methods of doing this. Some people recommend placing electronics that get wet into a bowl of rice to draw out any moisture. Another great recommendation is to place it in a warm, but not hot environment, such as an airing cupboard. This will slowly eradicate any moisture without damaging the electronics inside the AirPod. Do not apply any intense heat to the unit, such as aiming a hair dryer at it or placing it on a radiator. Although this will help to dry it out, it could also heat up any circuitry and cause irreparable damage.

Replace them

If they still do not work, you’ll unfortunately have to replace one, or both of them. The good news is that if only one is broken, you can buy another for $69, which is less than half price of the full set. If both are broken, you can buy two separately and still save money instead of a full set with another case. Apple will not replace the damaged product under warranty because they do not market it as water-resistant. As mentioned though, the devices are pretty water resistant and it’s unlikely you should ever be in the position where they become water damaged.

For another layer of protection for your Apple AirPods, it’s always recommended that you get them wrapped. If and when you drop them, it’s another coating that stops the outside elements getting into your device. AirPods wraps also give you the opportunity to make your AirPods unique, using every color you can possibly think of to add a splash of personality.
